Gas vents that are over 12 inches 305 mm in size or are located less than 8 feet 2438 mm from a vertical wall or similar obstruction shall terminate not less than 2 feet 610 mm above the highest point where they pass through the roof and not less than 2 feet 610 mm above a portion of a building within 10 feet 3048 mm horizontally.
All other gas vents shall terminate not less than 2 feet 610 mm above the highest point where they pass through the roof and at least 2 feet 610 mm higher than any portion of a building within 10 feet 3048 mm.
Notice that we use the words any roof surface or an part of a structure in this explanation.
For a gas vent or type l vent this height must be 2 ft 0 61m or more.

The 2 10 rule states that combustion vents should terminate at least 2 feet above any part of the roof within 10 feet.
