The longer you let red wine sit in your carpet the harder it will be to get rid of the stain. Make sure that the peroxide and soda fully cover the stained area and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes. Wine is another dreaded stain especially dark wines. The water dilutes the red wine which makes it easier to blot up. When red wine hits a white shirt tablecloth or light colored carpet try to blot up as much of the wine as possible and then spray hydrogen peroxide on the stain followed by a hefty sprinkle of baking soda. Keep blotting fresh cleaning solution onto the carpet as long as you continue to get transfer of the red wine spilled from the carpet onto the cloth.
